I just got my 5mbit and somehow bcrelay is eating all my CPU too
Code:
 1100 root     R        272  1099 51.6  1.9 bcrelay

It also doesn't seem QoS related, cause there's no difference when I turn it off.

A GSv4 router must be capable of routing 5mbit without any troubles right?! I already overclocked the damn thing to 216mhz.

[edit]
oh yeah, I'm not using wireless when downloading at full speed (although it's enabled).

[edit2]
I just read on the old forum that bcrelay is part of the poptop package (PPTP VPN server).
I do have PPTP server enabled for my VPN connection when I'm not at home. But why is it using so much CPU power when there are no VPN connections?

[edit3]
Disabling PPTP server does solve the load issue, what I still don't understand is WHY bcrelay is using so much CPU power when there's nobody connected to my VPN.

I've put 'killall -q bcrelay' into startup script and lived happily ever after. Smile It's interesting to find out what functionality I have lost with it, though... Anyone?

According to Google, bcrelay will relay broadcasts between interfaces. Seems it might be used with VPN?

It is used with VPN, but why does it eat up to 60% of the CPU usage when nobody is connected to the VPN?
Also when I stop downloading the usage drops to normal values. Weird...

I'd like to join in this discussion:

I've got a WRG54G v3.1 w/ DD-WRT 23sp1. I have maxed out CPU loads.

Load Average
100%
11.63, 11.89, 11.62

Using the top command I've found this:

PID USER STATUS RSS PPID %CPU %MEM COMMAND
32669 root R 508 1 9.9 3.6 vi
32749 root R 908 1 8.8 6.4 vi
502 root R 512 1 8.8 3.6 vi
500 root R 512 1 8.8 3.6 vi
32667 root R 512 1 8.8 3.6 vi
32665 root R 508 1 8.8 3.6 vi
494 root R 512 1 8.6 3.6 vi
324 root R 2788 1 8.4 19.8 vi
453 root R 544 1 8.2 3.8 vi
32663 root R 512 1 7.7 3.6 vi
456 root R 508 1 7.7 3.6 vi
104 root S 776 1 1.6 5.5 httpd
16081 root S 792 18056 1.1 5.6 dropbear
16670 root R 496 16121 1.1 3.5 top
16121 root S 600 16081 0.0 4.2 sh
15899 root S 584 15898 0.0 4.1 pppd
1 root S 504 0 0.0 3.5 init
18245 root S 504 1 0.0 3.5 dnsmasq
18056 root S 456 1 0.0 3.2 dropbear

It seems command VI is using up almost all my resources making everything else extremly slow. Does anyone have any idea why this happens?

Why have you VI running? VI is a text editor and it shouldn't be running unless you're working with it Wink
