Did anybody else noticed that all newest builds after 1-2 days start to have load about 2 or even more? I've noticed it on my WRT54GL v1.1. For me last good build is from 22/06. I tried after it builds from 26/06, 28/06 and 01/07 and they all have this bug.

On the other hand FW from 26/06 works OK on my WRT54G v3.

no firmware issue-->closed

i have no timescheduler with a cpu load multiplier inside
please check your condition. each cpu load has a reason. any high bandwith causes higher cpu loads

OK I'll investigate it closer. But it's not from high bandwith - I've simple home ADSL line with 1024/256 plan, 1 PC (WWW, email) and 1 VoIP adapter (PAP2) so no way to do high bandwith.

it can be pure wireless bandwith within the network. i can be heavy filesharing traffic. many ports in general.

I've got a WRT54G v5. I was very excited to hear that the v5 could be flashed without a JTAG and installed DD-WRT as fast as I could.

One of the reasons was that the stock vxworks firmware pppoe didn't work with my ISP. So I installed the image linked to in the "PPPOE is now possible with micro builds" posting (27/6 build). Well, pppoe worked, but the router was unstable. After a while it hangs, telnet and web access don't work. The connection is established but nothing after that. Load average, as displayed on the web page, was high, around 2.

Downgraded to v23_sp1_micro and things work fine (no pppoe, of course), with load average down to 0.2 or so.

ssh to your wrt and run the command: top

tell us what specifically is causing the high load

you might also try newer builds for the v5. its not unstable. just pppoe takes additional memory if used. if you leave it disabled it should be stable like the original release

Wow, that top command is great. Is there a place I can go read up on what each specific process mean? Like for example "ksoftirqd_CPU0", or "wland", etc. Thanks.

wland just repairs broken links if needed. the irq0 process is a kernel interrupt process. high load on this is almost network related.

qos for example which is running just on lan->lan, but not on wan causes very high load. so the fastest way of using qos is always in routed mode from wan port to lan/wlan

It's definitely NOT:

1. problem with WLAN - I'm not using it at all (it's disabled)

2. QoS - it's on WAN and only based on MAC for 3 machines (each with light network usage)

3. P2P traffic - max connections is set to 4096 and all the time Active IP Connections are about 100-150.

From top stats it was caused by httpd (used only for ocasional checking of work parameters from LAN and WAN).

Anyway I've installed latest VPN-generic FW (from 02/07) and will report if it will also make high load.

@BigL

I have the same issue when I am copying files over my WLAN. Load Average is about 1,5 and max wlan speed is 1,1 MByte/sec.

Internet Access is ok (6MBit), but WLAN is very very slow.... ; Also Router the Web Access of the router responds very slow.

I am still investigating my problem.

Maybe you can check your wirless speed + load average, THX.

As I mentioned my WLAN is disabled. So it's not a problem.
